Igor Rubtsov, Chemistry>
We developed an approach of putting a unique vibrational label into a lipid bilayer at a desired depth in the hydrophobic portion of the bilayer. The label is capable of measuring accurately the rigidity of the bilayer via vibrational spectroscopy (FTIR and 2DIR). The project involved testing how the bilayer interior is affected by various antimicrobial agents, both water soluble and hydrophobic.
