Published nonfiction writer with a book contract seeks a Research Assistant to work closely on the development of the upcoming book. This is a volunteer opportunity for someone interested in journalism, creative non-fiction, reporting, oral history, and the process of making a non-fiction book. Responsibilities will run the gamut but will include: transcribing interviews; archival and online research work; assistance coordinating and conducting group interviews; office duties such as filing, organizing materials and communications, etc…
Assistant should be a rigorous worker — consistent and reliable; problem solver; creative thinker and extremely organized. Discretion is required. Approximately 20 hours per week. By the end of internship, student will have worked closely with a published writer and learned what it takes to work on a longform nonfiction book project. Credit will be given in finished book. Some research
experience required. An aptitude for learning and asking questions is a must.
Transcription work can happen remotely. Some work in author’s New Orleans office may be required.
Complete Non-Fiction Book. Credit given in book along with valuable research skills developed.
