Analysis of preconception data

Emily Harville, Epidemiology, School of Public Health

Project Description

Establishing the pre-pregnancy nutritional factors associated with delivery of healthy infants ideally involves assessing nutrition prospectively, accurately, and in a way that generalizes to diverse populations. Several different diets, including the Mediterranean, DASH, Fit for Delivery, FIGO Nutrition, and the Fertility Diet have been recommended for women planning to conceive.

However, approximately 45% of pregnancies worldwide are unplanned, and it is especially important to understand nutritional effects on these pregnancies. In addition, 29% of women in the U.S. now enter pregnancy obese, and it is possible that better nutrition could mitigate the associated risks. We are addressing this question drawing on studies participating in the PrePARED Consortium, leveraging this source with prospective data and diverse participants.

The overall project goal is to identify dietary patterns and specific dietary factors that are associated with optimal outcomes.
