The research assistant will conduct historical and historiographic research for a book project studying the development of the co-curriculum of American colleges and universities from the founding of Harvard University in 1636 to the present. The assistant will also research the historical development of the student affairs profession. This is an unpaid research assistantship, but the position is eligible for grant funding through the Newcomb-Tulane College grant program and Summer Research Program. The research assistant would also need to apply for grant funding and obtain a faculty letter of recommendation. Grant funding is only available to undergraduate students.
The final deliverables for this assistantship will be a literature review and bibliography. The RA will also assist in the preparation of book proposal submission materials.
Time, eligibility, and other details
Expected workload | The research assistant will work 20 hours per week towards this book project. Work times are flexible, but you must have availability during the workday for meetings, email communication, and archive visits. All meetings can be conducted remotely, but the research assistant position is located in New Orleans so the research assistant has access to the Tulane academic library for non-digitized books and interlibrary loan items. |

Who is eligible | The ideal candidate is an undergraduate history student. No previous research experience necessary. Must be proficient in Microsoft Suite and Google Docs. |
