Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Undergraduate Research Scholars Program

Julie Albert & Hank Ashbaugh, Tulane University

Project Description

The Tulane University Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering is offering research opportunities through the Undergraduate Research Scholars program established by a grant from the Louisiana Board of Regents.

Under this program, students will work in the lab of a faculty member from the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering over the academic year (Fall 2023– Spring 2024) gaining research experience that can them plan their future career path.

Undergraduate Research Scholars will participate in research-related professional development workshops, attend research seminars, and present their work at the annual School of Science and Engineering Research Days in the Spring.

The Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering faculty and their research areas include:

• Prof. Julie Albert – Polymers, thin films, glass recycling

• Prof. Hank Ashbaugh – Thermodynamics and simulations of self-assembled materials

• Prof. W Godbey – Gene therapy and cellular engineering

• Prof. Vijay John – Self-assembly and nanostructured materials

• Prof. Brian Mitchell – Nanostructured materials processing and additive manufacturing

• Prof. Matt Montemore – Quantum chemical calculations of materials for energy

• Prof. Kim O’Connor – Stem cell technology • Prof. Kyriakos Papadopoulos – Transport phenomena

• Prof. Noshir Pesika – Bioinspired nanomaterial synthesis and characterization

• Prof. Nich Sandoval – Genome and metabolic engineering

• Prof. Dan Shantz – Materials that address challenges in energy and sustainability
